A Pioneer in Transcreation Is Coming of Age
Friday, September 22, 2006

Borrowing a page from Latino culture where the Quinceañera celebrates a girl’s 15th birthday in grand style as her Coming of Age, TripleInk is planning to celebrate its 15 years in business in a memorable way with an evening of international food, live music and three local photographers who have traveled the world to find their subjects. The invitation-only event will highlight the enlightening work of local photographers Gregor von Ehrenfels, Stephen Haynes, and Theodore Roseen.

Under the theme of Connecting People - specifically people from different cultures who speak different languages – the event will pay tribute to the work of multilingual communication and the diverse people it reaches every day. It also serves as a heartfelt thanks to all the clients and supporters who look at TripleInk as “a very small country that calls the whole world home”.

Founded in 1991 under the name Creo International, TripleInk pioneered “transcreation” as an effective approach to multilingual and multicultural advertising. Over the past 15 years they refined and trademarked their proprietary processes as the Six Degrees of Transcreation®.

“The need for effective global marketing communications has grown exponentially since we started our agency”, says agency co-founder Christa Tiefenbacher-Hudson, “which has driven tremendous growth and extraordinary changes in the translation industry. At the same time, U.S. companies have recognized that translation is only part of the solution when it comes to communicating with their non-English-speaking international and U.S. ethnic customers.”

“Today, there is much greater awareness that effective marketing communications is also about understanding the culture of our audiences and expressing these cultural dimensions in our communications. This may seem like an overwhelming task when you are trying to reach audiences in dozens of different markets, but it’s really a matter of applying a method to the madness. That’s what we have done with our Six Degrees of Transcreation. And it’s a tool that continues to evolve, so we don’t know what it will look like 15 years from now.”

About the Featured Photographers

Gregor-Alexander von Ehrenfels specializes in classic black & white photography, creating psychological portraits which not only portray the head but also reveal its inner meaning... not only the features but also the mentality. His award-winning work has been exhibited internationally among some of the world's finest Photographic Artists, with images accepted by the Royal Photographic Society and The London Salon of Photography. Stephen Haynes is a Minneapolis-based fine art photographer whose travels have yielded a wide variety of images. Prints from those travels, plus photographs of opera and dance and studies of the human figure, are in over one hundred private collections here and abroad. He has exhibited locally in shows ranging from the Minnesota State Fair to award-winning photographs at several local juried art shows. At the TripleInk Open House, Mr. Haynes will be showing photographs from his series, "Maya: Portrait of an Indigenous People," photographed in Guatemala. Theodore Roseen finds himself in a strange, new environment every year with his camera slung over his shoulder. He is on a continuous quest to find out who he is by meeting others, people that are vastly different than him, but at the same time similar in the reflection of emotions and curiosity they see in his eyes. The goal of his photography is to bring these unfamiliar faces and experiences to you, the viewer, here, in a more familiar environment. His hope is that through your viewing, you’ll find the connection in something that, though possibly unfamiliar, is universal, an exploration of emotion, an exploration of self, something that will hopefully stay with you long after your eyes have left it.
